"Getting involved in my city has been a tremendous source of meaning and fulfillment. It has been much more than just a job. I believe it is possible to achieve remarkable success…extraordinary results by being engaged in work that matters.
The single element of my background that voters should be aware of is my passion and commitment. Starting from a young age, I have always believed in giving back to my community.
I have demonstrated my passion and commitment by volunteering so much of my time to numerous boards and committees. I have the most well-rounded background of any candidate for commission. I have business experience in having been a small business owner on the beach and president of the Miami Beach Latin Chamber of Commerce. I have legal experience in community association law; condominium associations are in essence mini-governments. I worked on the city's condominium reform taskforce. I have land use experience in serving on both the Miami Beach Zoning Board of Adjustment and Design Review Board. I have affordable housing experience in serving on the advisory board of directors for Neighborhood Lending Partners and also recently attended the Public Officials Housing Institute at FIU. I have experience in tourism both through the chambers of commerce and by serving on the City's Blue Ribbon Tourism Taskforce after 9/11.
I did not arbitrarily decide to run for office. I have demonstrated time and time again that I care about this city and doing what is best for Miami Beach.
The main difference that sets me apart from my opponents is my vast experience of serving on numerous boards and committees for the City of Miami Beach, Miami Beach professional and civic associations and chambers of commerce. I have served as Special Master, Miami Beach/Code Enforcement; Member, Miami Beach Condo Reform Taskforce; Member, Miami Beach Zoning Board of Adjustment; Member, Miami Beach Design Review Board; Member, Mayor's Blue Ribbon Tourism Task Force; Member, Miami Beach Community Development Adivsory Committee; President, Miami Beach Latin Chamber of Commerce, and President of the Miami Beach Bar Association. What distinguishes me is that I have a proven track record of service and leadership over many years demonstrating my commitment to the City of Miami Beach.
When you review my experience, skills and credentials I believe you will conclude I clearly have the qualifications and passion to serve effectively. My credibility is evident in the community service I have been giving my entire adult life.
December 17, 2003 was proclaimed “Michael C. Gongora, Esq. Day” in Miami Beach. In 2003, Sun Post newspaper named me as one of the “Power 50; and in 2006, South Florida CEO Magazine selected me as a “Next Gen” leader. Please take a look at Links to Michael on my website for more information.
I am running for re-election because I have demonstrated that I can make a difference in one of the most exciting cities in the world. Having been elected the newest Miami Beach Commissioner I have had the opportunity to begin using my professional skills and experience that led me to pursue this next step in public service. Miami Beach needs leaders with experience and vision that contribute to make Miami Beach an even better place to live, work and play. The confidence in me to serve was evidenced by my being elected to serve last November. I want to continue what I have begun.
Summary of Credentials & Experience
Thank you for your confidence in me, electing me your newest Miami Beach Commissioner last November and thank you for supporting me now for re-election.”
